Studying with Impairments (best2)

Last week the results of the best2-survey were presented in Berlin. For the second time since 2011 the study evaluated the situation of students with health-related impairments that impede their studies. Best2 is a joint research project carried out by the German Center for Higher Education and Research and Science Studies (DZHW) in cooperation with the German National Association for Student Affairs (DSW) and the Institute for Advanced Studies, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

The main focus lied on the difficulties and barriers that students with impairments are confronted with. The results point towards ways to create equal opportunities among students with health-related impairments. The data collection was carried out in the winter semester 2016/2017. The report provides information about the influence of impairments on the choice of course of study, study barriers or the use of impairment-related information services. Close to 21.000 students with health-related impairments from 153 universities participated in the online survey. More information at www.best-umfrage.de.
