Publication: Effects of crises on well-being and living situation

For the fifth time, IHS and Statistics Austria conducted the panel survey "So geht's uns heute", this time focusing on housing.

According to the survey, the number of people with a loss of income at the end of 2022 remained largely constant compared with the previous quarter. The number of people with low incomes has even declined somewhat. The expectations of Austrians have also improved slightly. By contrast, the burden caused by high housing and energy costs has risen again: they are a heavy financial burden for 1.5 million people (24%) - an increase of 2 percentage points compared with Q3 2022. The number of people who already have payment difficulties for rent or operating costs has also increased: Up 1 percentage point from 447,000 to 500,000 people.
