Recommended Measures for Controlling the Virus

A consortium of 28 scientists, including IHS health economist Thomas Czypionka, have presented a long-term strategy for containing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Policy planning and implementation of pandemic containment measures have often seemed dominated by decisions with shorter planning horizons. This has probably been an important factor in the only limited successes in pandemic control. We believe that the goal of sustainable pandemic containment can only be achieved through long-term, comprehensive, scientifically sound, evidence-based, and, most importantly, collaborative policy development and implementation by all stakeholders. To this end, this document develops proposals for the current situation, which are also integrated into a long-term overall concept.
