SUNRISE workshop: Strengthening critical infrastructure

A recently held workshop at IHS aimed to discuss and further develop ideas for scientific papers building on insights of the EU project SUNRISE.

The project focuses on strengthening Europe's critical infrastructure providers — in fields such as energy, water supply, and transportation—by improving collaboration and creating new tools to tackle major challenges, especially during crises like pandemics.

The workshop offered a valuable opportunity to establish and strengthen collaborative partnerships, with the goal of enhancing the project's scientific impact. It fostered the development of several ideas for publications, spanning various stages of progress.

Participants worked in groups on specific ideas for possible papers on topics such as analyzing the effects of droughts and water shortages on the Spanish economy, evaluating the economic and social impact of services by critical infrastructure providers from a public goods perspective, working on advanced modelling linkages, and exploring the scientific application of the SUNRISE strategy and risk assessment toolset. The workshop also provided a platform for coordinating efforts, planning an upcoming validation event and concluded with a plenary discussion with all participants. The project is scheduled for completion in September next year.
