Based on several indicators (i.a. value added, employment, investment activity and upstream linkages), we examine the economic importance of the manufacturing sector in Austria. We find that around 644,000 employees in more than 25,000 industrial companies secure more than one million additional jobs in the Austrian economy through sectoral linkages. In addition to 61.5 billion euros in direct value added effects, another 66.3 billion euros in indirect and induced value added effects are related to the Austrian manufacturing sector.
