Matthias Penker has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Competence Center for Survey Research since June 2026. He earned a doctoral degree from the University of Graz in 2026. Before joining IHS, Matthias was a predoctoral researcher at the Department of Sociology and the Center for Social Research at the University of Graz, Austria.
His research focuses on mode effects and representation bias in probability-based general population surveys, with a particular interest in cross-national comparison. Matthias applies multilevel regression models, often within a Bayesian framework, to draw inference across various strata of society. His work aims to improve data quality in surveys and advance quantitative methods for comparative social research. -
