The analysis, co-authored by IHS health economists Thomas Czypionka und Siegfried Eisenberg and published in the journal Scientific Reports, is the first to quantitatively analyze the differences in non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) such as lockdowns or mask mandates after vaccines became available.
The study, titled "European countries policy responses against SARS-Cov-2 in the context of vaccinations," fills a research gap by systematically analyzing the different strategies countries used for NPIs and vaccination campaigns. The findings provide important insights into how governments responded to the pandemic once vaccination was available as the primary means of containing the virus.
