Gabriele Pessl studied Sociology (GEIKU - branch of humanities) and African Studies and obtained her degrees in 2009 and 2013 (MMag. Phil). From 2005-2007 she worked as stipendiary at EQUI. Since 2009 she is member of the academic staff at the IHS. Since 2015 she works on her thesis on Early School Leaving, combining biographical and discourse analysis on the phenomenon.
Sociology of education, research on social and educational inequalities, education biographies, youths in transition, school drop-out and early school leaving.
Methodological focus on qualitative methods, in particular hermeneutics and reconstructive approaches (analysis of biographies, discourse analysis) and on evaluation of education, labour market and social policies and programs for youths.
