The embedding of Austrian foreign trade in the global division of labor

Project Lead: Klaus Weyerstraß
Team: Martin Ertl, Daniel Schmidtner, Adrian Wende, Hannes Zenz
Duration: January 2025 – September 2025
Funding: Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism

The aim of the project is to quantitatively analyze the development of trade between Austrian companies and third countries (i.e., countries outside the EU). This is done using data from the Austrian Micro-Data Center (AMDC) of Statistics Austria, which in particular enables a detailed investigation of the effects of trade with third countries at the product and company level. By adding further data sets, both the direct and indirect (intermediate input) significance of third-country trade will be illuminated. Particular attention will be paid to potential risks associated with the stability of supply chains. The study will also identify potential for Austria to gain market share at the global level.
