Accompanying Research PPIE

Project Lead: Elisabeth Frankus
Team: Magdalena Wicher, Alexander Lang, Johannes Starkbaum
Duration: 2020–2023
Funding: Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft

The accompanying research of the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Implementation Program of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft aims to evaluate the projects of the two pilot tenders as well as the support offered by the PPIE team in order to draw important lessons for further LGB OIS Centre programs.

The accompanying research shows the extent, depth and quality of citizen involvement in the projects of the two calls and the scientific, social and democratic added value that could be generated for different target groups.

Furthermore, the data collected in the course of the accompanying research allows conclusions about how the offers of support by the PPIE team were accepted and what steps are necessary to ensure the medium and long-term impact of the PPIE projects.

To achieve these project goals, the PPIE accompanying research team builds on its experience and applies a mix of different methods such as qualitative interviews, focus groups, written surveys, participatory observation, etc.

Furthermore, the program evaluation will provide structured feedback on quantitative survey tools already developed by the PPIE team to evaluate support measures and involvement of citizens in the approved projects.

Finally, the accompanying research of the PPIE implementation program also includes the development of a concept that aims to measure the medium- and long-term impact of the projects.
