People at IHS in alphabetical order:

  • Alexander Lang works in national and international projects on new and emerging technologies, technology assessment, or research and innovation governance. At the moment, he works on his dissertation on robotics in care and is a member of the Interreg project AI Social Design Thinking Lab. Furthermore, he is part of the accompanying research for the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Implementation Program of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft. Over the last five years, he has led a study investigating the scientific and political discourse on gene drives, and coordinated and conducted technology assessment studies on new applications of DNA analysis as well as genome editing.

    In addition to this focus on new and emerging technologies, he has investigated the meanings and practices related to dying and the good death in various projects dealing with the perspective of professional caregivers or dying people and their relatives.

    Alexander Lang studied Sociology (2007–2011) and German Philology (2006–2012) at the University of Vienna as well as Socio-Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (2011–2015). Since October 2017 (Dies Doctoralis June 2018) he has been a doctoral candidate at the University of Vienna, Faculty of Social Sciences (Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Michaela Pfadenhauer).

    He has been working for the Institute for Advanced Studies since 2011. Currently, he is a member of the research group "Science, Technology and Social Transformation"; between 2011 and 2015, he was part of the IHS's Department of Sociology. In parallel, he worked as project assistant at the University of Klagenfurt (Faculty for Interdisciplinary Research and Continuing Education, Department of Palliative Care and Organisational Ethics; Vienna) from 2017 to 2018 as well as a lecturer for qualitative research methods at the University of Vienna inbetween 2015 and 2017 (see "teaching").
