Beate Littig studied sociology at the Universities of Göttingen, Hamburg and the Free Uni-versity Berlin. From 1987 to 1989 she was scientific member of staff at the Daimler-Benz AG research institute. In 1995 she took her Ph.D. degree in sociology at the FernUniverisät Hagen. Since 1996 she is assistant professor at the Institute for Advance studies. In 2001 she habilitated at the University of Vienna. Her research activities cover environmental soci-ology; environmental consciousness and behaviour; sustainable development, environment and gender, methods of qualitative research. She is an authorised Socratic facilitator and has experiences in Socratic Dialogues with profit and non-profit organisations, i.a. in medical ethics. 1998-2001 she participated in the EU project (Leonardo da Vinci) „Qualifizierungsbe-darf zum Einsatz innovativer Technologien in der Althaussanierung” (QUINTEC).
