Magdalena Wicher studied psychology with a focus on environmental psychology and gender studies at the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz and wrote her diploma thesis as part of the project "Build to Satisfy" (in the area of energy and climate research) in environmental psychology.

From 2008 to 2010, she worked as an auxiliary research assistant at the Institute of Psychology in Graz within the department of social psychology and was a research assistant in 2014 at the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change (University of Graz) in a project on climate change adaptation and voluntary work in disaster management. From 2014 to 2017 she was researcher at the IFZ – the Interdisciplinary research center for technology, work and culture within the research areas: Women*- Technology - Environment, Energy and Climate and Food Systems.

In her work she focused on (gender aspects in) science and technology education and on the interactions of technology and society (with the topics of, e.g. young people and green/smart energy use, sustainable energy systems and mobility), where she emphasizes on a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods (including ethnographical and participatory approaches).

Since 2015 she is researching the potential of responsible and sustainable research (RRI – Responsible Research and Innovation) and its impact on and interaction between society, science and policies. Currently she is a member of the research group "Techno-Science & Societal Transformation" and working on evaluating and monitoring the implementation and institutionalization of RRI (within RTOs - research and technology organisations) within the European funded project JERRI - Joining Efforts for Responsible Research and Innovation.

She is a member of the working group Queer STS and board member of the association “Network Psychology and Environment”.
