For some time now, public debate over the Austrian educational system is torn between scandalization and exaggerated expectations. High costs and poor performance are being criticized while at the same time education is seen as a panacea for nearly all societal problems and challenges. The program of the Austrian government includes some bullet points that signalize a turn a turn away from current reform programs. Although the concrete contents remain unclear.
