Today, the Austrian government appointed IHS director Martin Kocher as the new president of the Austrian Fiscal Advisory Council. The Fiscal Advisory Council monitors compliance with fiscal regulations in Austria. Its tasks also include budgetary policy recommendations, fiscal policy analyses and studies, and participation in the formation of public opinion. Martin Kocher describes his role in the upcoming years: "The Fiscal Advisory Council is an admonisher as well as a proposer for economic policy and structural reforms. I will apply this in a similar fashion as was done by my predecessors." Due to the strain on public budgets caused by the Corona pandemic, the expertise of the Fiscal Advisory Council and its members is in particular demand.
