Peter Biegelbauer
Curriculum Vitae
Peter Biegelbauer is Senior Researcher at the Department for Sociology. He holds a Master and a Doctorate in political science from the University of Vienna and a Master from MIT. After working as a freelance social scientist since 1994, he joined the ICCR Vienna in 1996 and has been with the IHS since 1998. He teaches at the Universities of Vienna and Innsbruck on social learning and public policy making, political economy, comparative politics and social science methods as well as political, sociological and economic theory since industrialization. In 2006 he was guest professor at the Charles University in Prague. In the fall term of 2011 he was guest researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research in Karlsruhe. Since 2012 he is Senior Scientist at the Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna.
His research work focuses on the fields of research, technology, industry and innovation policy, where he has coordinated several national and international research projects (RP5-POL, FDI-CEEC, LEARNPOL, TECHLEARN, INNO-STEER). More recently he has also become interested in other policy areas, such as health and medicine (projects GEN-DIALOG, TRI-GEN). He is interested in all phases of the policy life-cycle, from problem definition to policy evaluation and reformulation. For several years he has concentrated on policy evaluation and the possibilities of learning from experience. Recently he has looked also into issues concerning regulation and legislation more directly, namely the democratic quality of regulatory practices (project CIT-PART), legislative drafting (project LIFE), better regulation and regulatory impact analysis (EU-Network ENBR).
He has been engaged in the Austrian Political Science Association and has held various positions there, including Secretary General 2000 and 2001. Since 2010 he is member of the Executive Board of the Austrian Journal for Political Science.
