Applied and Basic Research
One feature special to the Institute for Advanced Studies is its combination of research and education. The institute carries out both basic research and applied and commissioned research. Several international rankings confirm the high quality of the scientific output of IHS researchers.
APPLIED RESEARCH
IHS develops innovative solutions to current economic and sociopolitical problems. Profound theoretical knowledge is translated into high-quality applied research. The range of tasks covered in applied reseach at IHS is very broad and extends from economic and political analyses to sophisticated evaluations and feasibility studies. IHS projects are commissioned by banks, departments, government, companies, interest groups, and the European Commission.
BASIC RESEARCH
Fundamental questions of economics and finance, political science, and sociology are investigated in basic research at IHS. A stimulating atmosphere, international, interdisciplinary, and team-oriented work are the basis for the excellent research achievements of IHS participants. A relatively small number of highly motivated researchers who are interested in scientific breakthroughs are offered the opportunity to dedicate themselves to their research and publications.
