A recent survey, commissioned by Wirtschaftskammer Österreich (WKO) – Fachverband für Kino – Kultur – und Vergnügungsbetriebe, conducted by Hermann Kuschej, analyzed the economic significance of the movie theater sector in Austria. The results were presented on September 19, 2017 at the WKO - Austrian Economic Chambers.
The survey shows that the movie theater sector in Austria is displaying high economic vitality. Cinemas are generally a significant economic factor in themselves, and they have a positive influence on businesses surrounding them. In 2016 cinemas generated net sales of 191 million euro and employed around 1.400 people. In addition, moviegoers spent 83 million euro outside the cinema, mainly in restaurants but smaller impulse buys are also significant.

The German economic upturn has gained both in terms of strength and breadth. In addition to consumer spending, external trade and investments are now also contributing to the economic expansion. These are the conclusions drawn by the economic research institutes in their autumn report for the German federal government. Whereas the very high economic momentum in the first half of the current year will slow slightly, the expansion of economic output this year and next will exceed production capacity growth. As a result, overall capacity utilization will increase, with economic output exceeding potential output. Gross Domestic Product is likely to grow by 1.9 percent this year and by 2 percent in 2018 (calendar-adjusted: 2.2 and 2.1 percent, respectively).
